The PREPÆRE Pre-Consultation Check-In™ is the digital risk-control component of PREPÆRE’s wider cosmetic malpractice risk-management offer.

It gives insurers a practical way to support policyholders with one of the most difficult-to-control parts of cosmetic risk: patient expectations, psychological factors and consent-related exposure.

Built for Portfolio-Level Adoption

The PREPÆRE Pre-Consultation Check-In™ standardises psychological risk disclosure before consultation, providing a consistent front-end safeguard designed to reduce claim frequency, severity, and settlement pressure.

ABOUT THE DIGITAL CHECK-IN

How It Works

1. CLINIC SENDS THE LINK TO EVERY PATIENT

Each insured practice receives a unique PREPÆRE link. The clinic adds the link to its existing booking or reminder communications, so it is sent to every patient. No system integration, dashboard, training programme or extra clinical admin is required.

2. patienT completeS the Check-In BEFORE CONSULTATION

The Check-In takes around 3 to 4 minutes to complete. Patients are taken through an interactive, chat-style flow that explains psychological risks, the limits of cosmetic outcomes, BDD-related considerations and other claim-relevant issues in clear, accessible language. The process does not make recommendations, assess suitability or produce a psychological risk score.

See what patients see

After completion, patients are signposted to the PREPÆRE Patient Hub™, which gives them further information on treatment preparation, aftercare, informed consent, expectations, psychological risk and decision-making support, as well as signposting to mental health support.

3. The patient provides proof of completion

The patient provides proof of completion to the clinic or practitioner. Practitioners do not receive patient disclosures and are not asked to interpret psychological suitability. This keeps the process focused on structured risk education and avoids shifting responsibility onto practitioners to assess psychological risk.

Questions?

  • PREPÆRE is funded through the insurance side and used by insured aesthetic practices. It is built for carriers, MGAs, coverholders, programme managers, and broker-led schemes. Each practice receives a unique link, which is added to existing booking or appointment communications. Patients complete the Check-In before consultation. No system integration is required and no new workflow is created for the clinic. We support clinics with implementation.

  • No — and the distinction matters. Psychological screening does not work as a reliable safeguard in aesthetic practice.

Self-report assessments have well-known limitations: they rely on honest disclosure in a setting where patients are motivated to proceed with treatment.

Practitioner-led screening exposes clinicians to medico-legal risk by asking them to identify psychological risk, assess suitability, and defend that judgement if a claim follows. PREPÆRE is based on the premise that if a well-documented risk can’t be reliably identified by practitioners, it must be disclosed to patients.

  • No. Practitioners see proof of completion only. They do not receive patient disclosures, psychological data, risk scores or recommendations. This avoids creating a patient-specific psychological risk file that the practitioner would then be expected to interpret, act on and defend.

  • PREPÆRE addresses common cosmetic claim drivers before consultation, when expectation and consent problems often begin. Every patient receives clear disclosure around psychological risk, emotional expectations, procedure limitations and outcome uncertainty before they speak to the practitioner. This prepares patients more effectively and reduces the number of patients who can credibly argue that these issues were never raised.

Where disputes do arise, PREPÆRE strengthens the record. Cosmetic claims often turn on conflicting accounts of what the patient expected, understood and was told. PREPÆRE creates a fixed, documented pre-consultation process across insured practices, giving claims and defence teams clearer evidence that key risk issues were addressed before treatment discussions began.

  • Both concerns were central to how PREPÆRE was designed. A safeguard that creates friction for practices will not be used reliably, and a check-in that feels clinical or burdensome will see poor patient completion.

PREPÆRE was developed with practitioners, patients, and medico-legal experts specifically to avoid both failure modes. Implementation is kept to a single step for the clinic. The patient-facing experience is accessible, non-clinical in tone, and designed to support engagement rather than discourage it.

  • PREPÆRE has been in development for over two years since 2024. It’s been built around the specific claim dynamics of elective cosmetic practice rather than adapted from general healthcare risk frameworks. It was developed with input from aesthetic practitioners, clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, medico-legal defence experts, and cosmetic patients.
